Vancouver Olympics: Russia investigates Olympic mis-spending


Vancouver Olympics Russia's top investigative body opened a criminal examine on Wednesday into alleged mis-spending of millions of dollars on the country's preparations. The Investigative Committee said it is looking into the allegations of pretender. It didn't name any names, but said the probe will look into allegations of abuses by officials of the Sports Ministry. Officials at the Sports Ministry had no instant comment. In Vancouver a traditional sports powerhouse, won their only three gold and 15 total medals.

Auditors of government in July cited dozens of examples of money being wasted. One example of auditors cited in just, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko charged 97 breakfasts to the Russian taxpayer during his 20-day stay in Vancouver. Why he would require five breakfasts per day.

BY the Russian media Mutko rejected the audit's findings in comments carried. He has kept his job despite expectations of his imminent departure. Russia is hosting the next Winter Olympics in 2014 in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

2010 Olympic Games gold medal winning puck donated to Hockey Hall of Fame by IIHF/VANOC


Vancouver, BC – The permanent home of perhaps the most famous six ounces of hard rubber in hockey history – the puck with which Canada’s Sidney Crosby scored the winning goal on Team USA during the overtime period of the Olympic gold medal game will go to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) President René Fasel and Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) CEO John Furlong jointly made the announcement of the donation of the gold medal winning puck to the Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF). The famous puck has been delivered by the IIHF to the HHOF, where it will be put onto public display as soon as possible.
